A day in the life of a 1 year old

Yesterday our beautiful little Evangeline was one year old. Everyone says it but… wow that has gone quickly! Yet, I can hardly remember or imagine life without her.

Yesterday morning I thought about myself one year ago – in labour, exhausted, pushing, numb, not-thinking-anything. And then I had a baby in my arms. Patrick crying in my ear. Me catching my breath.

I still haven’t caught my breath.

So here is the day that was. Life was no different to the day before, or the day before that. But now our baby was one. We still celebrated, reflected and enjoyed.

Opening her first present for the day (from her big sister)… I don’t know who was more excited by it!

Outside in the sun, opening presents from her Granny, Grandpa and aunties

In her new outfit from Granny & co. reading a book with Gracie. Gracie realised that she too had a red tshirt and similar overalls so disappeared into her room for a few minutes before emerging with a “Look, Evie and I are matching now”. She was rather pleased with herself!

Then we headed out for a family lunch at Gracie’s favourite Yum Cha restaurant (Evie didn’t get much say in the matter – we celebrated more for Gracie’s sake than Evie’s as she came to stay at our house especially to spend the day with Evie)

Followed by some dessert up the road at a cafe. A very, very special occasion – we very rarely offer Gracie a dessert! The 3 of us sang Happy Birthday to Evie amongst a roomful of starers.

Evie enjoyed herself a juicy strawberry for dessert (I wish I knew how to rotate images!)

Aww… a photo with Mummy :) I’m usually the one behind the camera so it is rare to have a photo of us together. But why do they always turn out like this!? Do I squeeze too hard?!

And then we drove home 2 very exhausted girls who slept for most of the afternoon!

Today we had Evie’s birthday party with family and friends. But I might have to save that one for another post… if I get around to it! Long story short, it was beautifully sunny (yes I got a little sunburnt) and we had a nice relaxing day eating, lazing about, playing and chatting.
